Love and Ambition in Bridgerton: Inspiring Creativity

If you find yourself captivated by the enchanting world of Bridgerton, you are not alone. The hit Netflix show, inspired by Julia Quinn’s book series, has charmed audiences with its depiction of romance and ambition in the backdrop of the 19th century. As the the seasons unfolds, viewers are drawn into the tale of the seven Bridgerton siblings, each on their own quest for love.
The beautiful portrayal of love in season 3 by the leading couple Colin and Penelope, wonderfully depicted by Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan, has inspired many to explore their own creativity. For some, this inspiration has found expression in poetry, for other’s in fanfic, beautifully capturing the essence of the story and the emotional journey it encompasses.
In this post, I delve into the world of Bridgerton, sharing some poems that the story inspired me to write.
The Kiss
He kissed her in the light of the lanterns;
Their gentle glow spreading shadows across the yard.
It was a spark turned to a flame,
Burning so strong it could not be contained.
It struck him as I stood in the archway,
Her warmth all around him in the graze of the night.
It hit him like never before;
Love is a powerful force.
Secrets and Lies
In the dark, our love
is safe and sound.
Words whispered at night
bursts like raindrops in light.
Could you love me outside of
the shadows that linger?
Creeping out of the corners,
face blushing with springtime.
Would you stand beside me
if I stood by you?
Grasping for your hand
in a summer hue.
Blinded by the sun,
dazed and confused.
What Bridgerton Can Tell Us as Writers
The first poem is about the start of the love story, the second is about the progression of it. If you have watched the show or read the book, you know
I found the story in the third season of Bridgerton gripping also because the couple we are rooting for are both writers. The theme of daring to show yourself to the world and allowing others to see what you create struck a chord with me. It is something I have been thinking about ever since I started sharing my poetry. It’s a powerful exploration of the vulnerability and bravery that come with putting your creative work out into the world, and it resonated deeply with my own experiences as a writer and creator. I think the story also poses the interesting question of how much you can compromise on your own dreams and aspirations in order to be with the one you love.
Now I am eagerly awaiting the release of the new episodes on June 13th. There may be more poetry to come after that.:)
